Barcelona Transfers: Xavi keen on Thiago Alcantara, Dani Alves set to return

Thiago Alcantara-Liverpool

Xavi wants Thiago Alcantara at Barcelona

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been linked with a return to Barcelona.

According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida, the newly appointed Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is extremely keen on reuniting with the Spaniard at Barcelona and he has apparently spoken to the club president Joan Laporta regarding a possible return.

Thiago joined Liverpool at the start of last season but he has been unable to demonstrate his true qualities because of persistent injury problems.

The Reds barely managed to scrape into the top four last season having overcome a major injury crisis and it will be interesting to see if Thiago can guide the Reds to silverware this season.

The Spaniard is undoubtedly a world-class midfielder and he could improve Barcelona immensely if the Spanish giants manage to convince Liverpool to part with him.

Barcelona have been struggling in the midfield all season and it is hardly surprising that they are looking to bring in reinforcements at the centre of the park.

Dani Alves heading back to Camp Nou

Meanwhile, another former Barcelona player could be on his way back to Camp Nou.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Dani Alves is returning to the Spanish club as a free agent and the transfer will be complete once the move is approved by the Spanish league authorities.

Apparently, Xavi Hernandez wanted the defender back at the club and Barcelona have managed to agree on a season-long deal with the player’s representatives today.

Alves is undoubtedly one of Barcelona’s greatest players and he helped the club win multiple trophies during his time at Camp Nou. It will be interesting to see if the experienced Brazilian defender can help Barcelona tighten up at the back once the move is formalised.
