Jamie O’Hara believes Arteta could be sacked after Brentford defeat

Mikel Arteta’s position as Arsenal manager appears to be in danger following the shocking loss to newly-promoted Brentford in the Premier League opener.

Former English footballer Jamie O’Hara has also claimed that the Spaniard would be the first manager to get fired in the Premier League this season.

Gunners sporting director Edu had previously commented on Arteta’s future, praising the club’s progress under the Spaniard despite being positioned 15th in the table last December.

Edu said: “Mikel is doing a great job, he’s doing really well here.

If we’re not talking about patience with Mikel. It would be very unfair to him because what a year we have faced: three months without football matches, a lot of things changing in the club.

It would be really unfair to Mikel to say something about that because the year was so challenging for everyone, but even more for Mikel, who had just arrived at the club.”

However, Edu also insisted that necessary changes would be made at the managerial level if the progress continues to slow down.

“If we start to see problems internally – if the players don’t believe anymore, if the staff isn’t good enough – then I will say ‘Hmm, I’m a bit worried.”

Arteta was highly criticized for the lacklustre performances last season and now he has once again come under fire after the Brentford defeat.

Arsenal eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba

Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba, who made his first-team debut last season, is understandably in a standoff with the Catalan club after demanding an improved contract.

The Catalan club, who are in a poor financial state, are not happy with the 18-year-old’s stance and hence are open to selling him this summer.

Arsenal have reportedly approached the young midfielder over a possible summer transfer after he is said to have rejected an offer from Manchester City.
