Newcastle plotting swoop for Barcelona star in 2022.

Newcastle United have set their sights on Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

According to Football Espana, the Magpies new owners want to make the German keeper one of their marquee signings and are preparing an offer worth €55m at the end of this season.

Ter Stegen has been Barca’s undisputable shot-stopper over the years and president Joan Laporta also wants to keep him.

But the Catalan club’s financial depravity doesn’t guarantee the future of any players as they are in dire need of generating funds.

The German keeper’s form has been questioned over the last two seasons and it remains to be seen whether new manager Xavi would give a chance to young homegrown talent Inaki Pena. Ter Stegen’s contract expires in 2025 and he was linked with a move to the Premier League in the past.

Phil Jones on Newcastle’s wishlist

Manchester United outcast Phil Jones is another player chased by Newcastle, according to the Sun.

The English defender hasn’t played for the Red Devils since last year and he is expected to be on the market in the January transfer window.

Newcastle have registered their interest in the 29-year-old alongside the likes of Watford and Derby County.

Eddie Howe is expected to take the reins at St. James Park, with the former Bournemouth gaffer agreeing to a deal with the Magpies’ new owners.

Howe was also spotted at Newcastle’s weekend Premier League game against Brighton.
