Harry Maguire slammed for his goal celebration against Albania

The Three Lions star was on target in the 5-0 win against Albania.

Football pundit Roy Keane has blasted Harry Maguire for his goal celebration in England‘s 5 – 0 win over Albania in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Maguire opened the account for the Three Lions after nine minutes, and he celebrated the goal by cupping his ears.

Keane has branded Maguire’s act as embarrassing due to his lack of form at Manchester United.

The former Irish star said (h/t The Daily Mail): “He puts his hand to his ear. He’s like shutting the critics up but I think that’s embarrassing.

“He’s been a disgrace the past few months for Manchester United. He thinks he scores there, he’s going to shut his critics up. Embarrassing.”

Fellow football pundit Ian Wright wasn’t also impressed with Maguire’s celebration, insisting the centre-back focus on the game instead.

Wright added: “The thing is, you just don’t need to do that. You look at that now and you think you don’t need to do that now because you’ve still got a lot of football to play.

“So don’t give them the opportunity to say, “right, we’ve got him”. Just play the game, Harry.”

Maguire defends goal celebration

Contrary to Keane’s claim that the celebration was aimed at his naysayers, Maguire explained it wasn’t directed at anyone. He also added that he is well aware of the criticism he would receive being a skipper of Man Utd.

Maguire said (h/t The Daily Mail): “No, it wasn’t directed at no one. It was a knee slide, I obviously put my hands on my ears, but no.

“I’m Manchester United captain, of course, I’m going to get criticism when the team isn’t doing well, I fully expect that – but of course it’s not directed at no one.”
