Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e. V. Dortmund

Founded In: 19 December 1909

Nick Name: Die Borussen

Slogan: Pride in battle

Ground: Westfalenstadion(Capacity- 81,365)

Opening: 2 April 1974

President : Reinhard Rauball

A group of young men unhappy with the Catholic Church group Trinity Youth founded the club in 1909. The name Borussia is derived from the Borussia beer produced by the nearby Borussia brewery in Dortmund. The club had only marginal success in local competitions during the next few decades.

After the early success in the local league club faced a major drawback in 1929. They came close to going bankrupt when an effort to improve the club’s fortunes by signing some paying professional footballers failed miserably, leaving the club in heavy debt. They only made it through thanks to the kindness of a local fan who paid for the team’s shortfall out of his own pocket.

With a 4–2 victory over Karlsruher SC in 1956, the club won its first national title. Borussia Dortmund won the last German Football Championship before the Bundesliga was formed in 1963. Dortmund won their first European Cup in the 1996-97 season.

In early 2000, the club went public and so far the only club on the German Stock Exchange. In the 2012–13 Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund finished in the second position. Dortmund lost 2–1 to Bayern Munich in their second UEFA Champions League Final on May 25, 2013, at Wembley Stadium, in the first-ever all-German club final.

Over the years, Dortmund has been home to a number of football legends. Michael Zorc, better known as “Susi,” spent his entire 17-year career on the show. The German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has made an amazing 453 appearances for the club. Marcos Reus is one of the club legends who is currently a member of the team.

Michael Zorc has the highest appearance for the club, with 572 matches. Alfred Preissler has scored for the club with 172 goals.

Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich’s football matches are known as “Der Klassiker” or “The Classic.” This is the most important match in the Bundesliga, and it has always been the most-watched match in the league. In the Champions League final in 2013, these two teams faced off at Wembley for the trophy. Bayern Munich secured the Bundesliga after Arjen Robben scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner. Bayern dominated for the better part, and they lead the wins with 73wins.
