Everton boss Rafa Benitez is open to parting ways with James Rodriguez this summer.

Everton playmaker James Rodriguez could leave Goodison Park this summer as new boss Rafa Benitez appears to have no problems in his departure.

The Colombian international joined the Toffees last summer under the influence of Carlo Ancelotti. He was excellent during the first half, making things happen in the attack but his form slumped due to injuries.

James’ future was also questioned when Ancelotti left Goodison Park to join his former club Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old had earlier stated that he wasn’t sure whether he would continue in the Premier League beyond this summer.

Benitez also stated that James’ quality couldn’t be doubted, but his fitness remains a concern ahead of the new season.

The Spanish manager said: “At the beginning of the pre-season, it is not easy. I think you can see he has the quality on the ball, but still his fitness is not where we are expecting.

“So, it is normal at this time. So, we will see. Obviously, we have more training sessions and more games.

“We will see how he is going on and every player. It depends on them, if they can make a difference or not.

“But at the moment, it is seeing how they progress and how they can improve. But nobody can argue about the quality of James.”

The report also adds that the Toffees would target Lazio forward Joaquin Correa if they let go of the Colombian this summer.

Correa is one of the sought-after players in the transfer market, with Tottenham, Inter Milan and Juventus chasing him.

It was reported earlier that the Argentine would be interested in a move away from Lazio to win more trophies. The 26-year-old is being valued at £25.5m by the Biancocelesti.
