Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the former midfielder Gini Wijnaldum but the Dutch international is not keen on a return for the Premier League club.

Newcastle are looking to strengthen their squad this month and they have already secured the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

The magpies are closing in on a deal to sign Chris Wood from Burnley and it will be interesting to see if they can improve their midfield as well.

Wijnaldum has struggled since his move to Paris Saint-Germain and he has been linked with a move away from the French club.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle are one of the several Premier League clubs who are keen on bringing the Dutchman back to the Premier League on loan.

It will be interesting to see whether the magpies are able to convince Wijnaldum to change his stance and return to St James’s Park this month.

Apparently, the Dutchman is not keen on playing for a club in the relegation zone but he is open to a return to England if a top club comes in with an offer.

Wijnaldum has started just 14 games for PSG this season and he is clearly struggling to establish himself as a key player for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Dutchman played his best football in the Premier League with Liverpool and a return to England could help him regain his confidence and sharpness.

Meanwhile, Newcastle could use a quality playmaker alongside Isaac Hayden and Wijnaldum seems like the perfect fit in theory.

The Dutchman is well suited to the Premier League as well as he could make an immediate impact for the magpie’s if they can pull off his signing.
