In 1878, Manchester United was established as ‘Newton Heath FC,’ but in 1902, the name was changed to ‘Manchester United.’

Manchester United is based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester and competes in professional football since 1878.

Manchester United captured their first title in 1908, but fame struck them in the 1950s when Sir Matt Busby took over as manager. Over the decade, he led the Red Devils to three championships.

In 1958, the Red Devils faced their darkest hour when the plane carrying them home from a European match crashed, killing eight players. The team was rebuilt by Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton, who both survived the accident. In the 1960s, a new Manchester United team headed by George Best and Denis Law won two league titles.

Over the 143 years of its history, Manchester United has seen many legends play on the pitch of Old Trafford. Some of the big names made up to the club’s  Hall of Fame. Ryan Giggs, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville and Alex Stepney are some of the top football players who played for the Red Devils.

Ryan Giggs has the most no. of appearances for the club, 963, while Wayne Rooney is the club’s highest goal scorer with 253 goals in 559 appearances.

Manchester United is famous for its rivalry with other Premier League clubs like Leeds United, Liverpool Football Club and Chelsea football club.

Manchester United also takes part in Manchester Derby against Manchester City football club, for holding the title of the best club in the city.

The club has witnessed some of the best managers in the history of football. Sir Matt Busby started his career as a rookie but took United to its highest glory at that time. Manchester United became the first English club to represent in European Tournament in 1957.

No manager came close to replicating Busby’s success after he left in1969 before Sir Alex Ferguson arrived in 1986. At Old Trafford, Ferguson built a dynasty, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles.

Following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named Interim Manager until the end of the season.
