Antoine Griezmann‘s future appears to be in peril following Lionel Messi’s decision to stay put at the club.
According to reports, Premier League trio of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring the French World Cup winner, who could risk losing his position with Messi’s arrival.
Griezmann had a bad start to life at the Nou Camp, failing to live up to his expectations.
One of the main talking points was the 29-year-old hadn’t given the liberty with Barca unlike his time at Atletico Madrid. The main reason is that Messi and Griezmann share similar traits in their playing style, which forced the latter to play out of his usual position.
It has been reported that the Frenchman considered the idea of leaving the club this summer after just one season, but Ronald Koeman’s arrival made Griezmann change his mind.
The Dutch gaffer is said to have ensured Griezmann a new role for his project should Messi leave the Nou Camp in the transfer window. However, with Messi reversing his decision, it has cast huge doubts on Griezmann’s survival at Barca despite Koeman’s vote of confidence.
Barca recently had a swap deal turned down by Atletico involving Griezmann and Joao Felix – an indication that the Catalans would not hesitate to sell the Frenchman should a suitable offer arrives.
Furthermore, Barca are said to be working on a deal to sign Lyon forward Memphis Depay, who could pose a real threat to Griezmann at Barca.
It will be interesting to see how Barca will plan with Griezmann as stakes have been raised with the stacked attack.
